Graham J SmithBSc, MSc, PhD, DIC, C.Eng Freelance Geotechnical Engineer
Graham Smith holds post-graduate degrees in Engineering Geology and served twenty years with a mid-sized mining/civils consultancy. A track record of geohazard-related investigation and design includes: land reclamation, slopes, foundations, landfill containment, quarries and small mines. He has more recent experience advising a turnkey contractor on development studies and groundworks co-ordination for logistic warehouses.
Geotechnical assistance to projects can, for example, take the form of: distillation of third party site reports, check design / scoping work for geotechnical solutions and the identification of best practice and regulatory requirements. Recourse to finite element modelling is available for analysis of ground:structure interaction.
Potential management functions include technical representation and Client liaison, along with the potential supervision of geotechnical sub-consultants and co-ordination of specialist ground improvement sub-contractors. The main drivers here are viewed as effective data flow, risk management and site design to achieve structural build specifications.
His preference is for working from home (Midlands based), with forays elsewhere as needed. |
